DEMHIST-ARRE Conference: Authenticity in the Conservation of Historic Houses and Palace-Museums

From 7-11 October 2014 ICOM-DEMHIST, the international committee of ICOM focussing on the conservation and management of house museums, and the Association of European Royal Residences, ARRE,  held a joint conference with the theme; Authenticity in the Conservation of Historic Houses and Palace-Museums. I was lucky enough to attend the conference and give a presentation. The conference had a very fitting venue, the Palace of Compiegne, a stunning backdrop fro the many interesting presentations and discussions. During and after the conference many interesting excursions were organised to regale the delegates in the various stunning examples of heritage and material culture with royal and imperial connections.

To be able to convey a sense of the sheer volume and splendour of the palaces and castles we visited I’ve created an film  from a selection of photographs of the following locations. Please click on the links for more information about the various sites.
